This was a tough but successful year for us. In 2010/11 our supporters had less money in their pockets and extreme winter weather depressed revenue and raised conservation costs. Even so, by the year end we had achieved our target of a Net Gain of 20 per cent contribution from front-line revenue.

We broke last year's record visitor numbers with 17.7 million visitors to our pay for entry properties and we now a have a staggering 3.8 million members. We owe much of this to our growing volunteer base which now stands at 61,500 volunteers

We believe conservation should always work hand in hand with access and we welcome everyone to explore 709 miles of coastline, extensive parts of our 255,000 hectares of countryside – much of outstanding natural beauty and more than 350 historic houses, gardens and parks, ancient monuments and nature reserves.
