Climbing for kids and beginners

Have a go at climbing to tick off number 46 from your list of 50 things to do before you're 11 3/4. Climbing can be great fun, but please remember that you must only climb in a supervised environment and with a helmet.
All indoor climbing walls will offer training, but if you're climbing outdoors you need to hire a qualified instructor. Instructor's need to have a minimum of an SPA qualification. Preferably they will have an MIA or MIC qualification too.
Here are some great places to try out climbing:
Brimham Rocks, Yorkshire
Brimham's varied and dramatic natural landscape makes it an exciting place for climbing. Children as young as seven years old can have a go at one of our family-friendly events.
The Lake District, Cumbria
Gorge scrambling, at Stickle Ghyll, is perfect for beginners and children as young as five. Bouldering lessons are also available. These are just a few of the many activities on offer at Great Langdale campsite.
Scrambling for beginners is available at Cam Crag Ridge, in the Langstrath Valley.
Carneddau & Glyderau, Snowdonia
The slabs and faces of Tryfan and Cwm Idwal are famous climbing spots. Training is available for kids, beginners and experienced climbers at the National Mountaineering Centre at Plas y Brenin.
