National Trust Kids Councilor, Kai, staring in the Beano

It is the dream of many youngsters but for one 7-year-old from Solihull the ambition of starring in a Beano strip has come true.

Kai Bickley makes an appearance in The Beano, on sale this week. In the issue Kai helps Dennis dig for fossils at Birling Gap in East Sussex. The strip is based on an adventure from the National Trust’s list of 50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾.

Kai is one of the National Trust’s Kids’ Council members and is the ambassador for hunting for fossils and bones. He said: "It's great hunting for fossils and bones as you can look anywhere and you never know what you might find. You have to look very carefully and you will find out lots about history and all the things that lived thousands of years ago!"

50 things to do before you're 11 ¾

50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾ was launched by the National Trust last year in a bid to encourage more children to play outdoors.

The move came in response to the Natural Childhood Report, a report commissioned by the Trust which highlighted evidence of a decline in children’s relationship with the outside world.

The report called for urgent action after revealing fewer than one in ten children regularly play in wild places, compared to almost half a generation ago, while a third have never climbed a tree and one in ten can’t ride a bike.
