How to make a Petworth Christmas star decoration

Make your own piece of Christmas spectacular as part of Petworth's ‘A Festive Feast for the Eyes’ extravaganza with this glittering cutlery Christmas star.

You will need:

  • Disposable plastic cutlery
  • Super glue
  • Spray paint
  • PVA glue
  • Glitter
  • Thread or fishing wire

    Step one

The plastic cutlery glued together into a star shape

Use the super glue to glue your cutlery together into a star shape and leave to dry.

    Step two

The plastic cutlery being spray painted silver

Cover your cutlery with spray paint. Make sure to follow the instructions on the spray paint can. To avoid the paint running, spray a couple of thin layers rather than one thick layer. Once dry, repeat on the reverse of the decoration.

    Step three

Place your decoration onto a sheet of scrap paper or newspaper and cover the ends of the cutlery with PVA glue.

    Step four

Glitter being sprinkled onto the decoration

Sprinkle the glued section with glitter, ensuring all the glue is covered. You can reuse the glitter on the scrap paper by removing the sheet, folding lightly in half and either pouring back onto the decoration or back into the pot.

    Step five

Tie thread or fishing wire around the decoration.  It will depend on the shape of your cutlery as to where this is best.  We tied ours tightly under the top of the knife then tied another loop at the top to hang it to the tree.

    Make it your own

You could use acrylic paint rather than spray paint, sequins rather than glitter, bright colours or pastel colours to make the decoration your own.
