New Year, new you in Yorkshire
Thinking about New Year’s resolutions today? We’ve got some great ideas of how you can kick start 2015 with a commitment to doing something great for yourself or for others. Will you walk more? Or even run? We have some great places to do it. Or if you have time to give, you could help us in our mission of looking after special places by volunteering in Yorkshire. Most of all, make a commitment to come and visit some of the region's favourite places.
Taking place every week, parkruns are free, 5km timed runs that are open to everyone whether you’re an experienced runner or a picking up the running bug for the first time. We currently hold weekly parkruns at Fountains Abbey and Nostell Priory.
Throughout the year, we'll have lots of ways for you to come and get active with us. Look out for guided bike rides, half marathons and orienteering challenges.
There’s nothing like a winter walk to blow away the cobwebs and get your fresh air fix. Explore some of Yorkshire's best countryside by yourself or join a guided walk, we've got lots to choose from - health walks, wildlife walks, discovery walks and even night sky walks.
Over 5,000 people help us to bring our places to life in Yorkshire and the North East in a variety of different ways. Pitch in with one of our teams of rangers or gardeners in the great outdoors, make someone's day working with the public or get up close and personal with our houses and the amazing things inside them.
You can improve your CV, meet new people and give something back to the community - take a look at the opportunities available and get in touch.
January may traditionally be the coldest month of the calendar, but as the frost descends, it’s the perfect time to get some fresh air and escape from life back at work after the Christmas break.
Many of our places are open throughout the winter with a host of activities to join. Stroll through the romantic ruins of Fountains Abbey, see the winter's hardier blooms peeking through the frost at Beningbrough Hall, or enjoy the bracing beauty of a wintery day in the Yorkshire Dales or coast.
