Magnolias are one of spring’s most glamorous beauties. With goblet or star-shaped flowers in colours ranging from pure white to deepest purple, many fill the chill spring air with gorgeous scent.

    This lovely magnolia (Magnolia × soulangeana ‘Alba’) with its large, goblet-shaped flowers is in full bloom during April. Its compact size makes it ideal for smaller gardens.

    Trelissick Garden, Cornwall

    Magnolia stellata with its lovely, white starry flowers that are lightly scented, looks stunning in full-bloom covering the bare branches before the leaves emerge. You’ll find many more magnolias and a whole garden bursting with spring delights.

    In April, the branches of Magnolia cylindrica are covered in beautiful, upright, scented flowers. The garden at Trengwainton has one of the best examples in the country.
