It's official - the Giant’s Causeway is one of the best retail experiences in the UK, after winning in the Best Visitor Attraction Gift Shop category at The Greats gift retailer awards last week.

The National Trust gift shop in the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre beat off stiff competition from leading attractions including the V&A, London; the Portcullis Gift Shop, Edinburgh and the Denby Gift Shop, to win the prestigious accolade.

The Greats Awards, now in their twelfth year, aim to recognise and reward the UK's very best gift retailers across the retail spectrum.

Bob Kane, Giant’s Causeway Retail Manager said:
'We are very proud to be recognised as one of the very best gift retail facilities in the UK. The Giant’s Causeway is a special place welcoming more than 780,000 visitors from around the world and it is our aim to give them a world class experience. So we’re delighted that the retail experience has also been recognised as one of the best in the UK'

Margaret Dunlop, National Trust Retail Buyer for the North Coast added:
'As well as a wide range of exclusive National Trust merchandise, the shop stocks an extensive range of quality local craft products. This is hugely important for us as we seek to spread the benefits of the Giant’s Causeway to the local economy.

'The designs for many of these products have been inspired by the basalt columns of the Casueway, the landscape and the sea. Others have taken their inspiration from the flora and fauna providing a truly unique shopping experience. However it’s also about giving a warm north coast welcome and excellent customer service every time.'

Sue Marks, Editor of Progressive Gifts & Home commented:
'These dedicated awards for gift retailers have risen immeasurably in status over the years and are now universally acknowledged as being true accolades of excellence.

'Being selected as a winner is a fantastic achievement. There was a huge entry this year, with some outstanding, first class entries.'

All retail finalists were decided as a result of an industrywide poll of gift suppliers, reps and agents and validation by a panel of experts.

The winners of this year’s prestigious gift retailing awards were revealed at an Awards lunch at the glamorous Savoy Hotel in London on Thursday 8 May.

The Awards recognised and celebrated not only the top independent and multiple gift retailers regionally and nationally, but also outstanding retail employees.
