Flapjacks

This classic combination of whole oats and syrup makes a tasty, energy-boosting snack. Enjoy as an afternoon treat or mix it up and try adding in some of your favourite flavours like seeds, chocolate or even fruit.

Ingredients

  • 720g porridge oats
  • 300g cooking margarine
  • 250g golden syrup
  • 200g caster sugar

Method

Step 1

Line a 20cm x 15cm or similar cake tray or brownie pan.

Step 2

Preheat the oven to 160°C (140°C fan/gas mark 3). 

Step 3

Place the sugar, syrup and butter in a large saucepan. Heat slowly until all melted together.

Step 4

Remove from the heat and pour onto the oats.

Step 5

Mix until all the oats and syrup mixture are combined.

Step 6

Spread the mixture into your tin and gently press the surface to level.

Step 7

Bake for 30 minutes or until golden.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and cut immediately into 12 portions while in the tin.

Step 9

Leave to cool completely and then remove the pre-cut portions.
