Antiques of all different types are cared for by our conservation team

Our dedicated conservation team works hard to keep Penrhyn Castle in top condition all-year round.

Inside the walls of Penrhyn Castle our conservation team carefully look after an extensive collection. They have to be experts in caring for all sorts of different things, including carpets, fabrics, furniture, ceramics and paintings.

How do they care for the collection?

To make sure that we can display our treasures as Penrhyn was in its Victorian heyday, we have to keep a careful eye on a few things.

Different conditions can have an effect on the collection such as temperature, humidity and pests. We have special systems in place to monitor and ensure the rooms aren't too hot or cold.

We have our ‘Conservation in Action’ events that allow us to carry out conservation work in front of an audience, such as our restoration of hand-painted silk wallpaper which was carried out in the Grand Hall. People can ask questions and find out more about what we do behind the scenes.

Keep an eye on our events page to find out about future events.
