Geocaching is a great way to get outdoors

Do you know about Geocaching?  It’s a bit like a treasure hunt and orienteering all mixed together with a GPS (Global Positioning System).

Upton House and Gardens have joined in this exciting new adventure game.  You can find your way to our hidden cache using a GPS system, often used on smart phones.

The basic idea is that individuals and organisations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet.  Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards.

The cache is usually a box of any size which is placed somewhere out of sight. The GPS position of the box is then recorded and logged onto the website.   As people find the cache they record their find on the website so we can see how often it has been found and get feedback from the finders.

Geocaching has hundreds of thousands of members all over the world. Find out how to get started and our GPS location at
