At Knole, activities go ahead whatever the weather

An important part of life at Knole is our programme of events for adults and children.  With six centuries of history, there is an enormous amount to interest our visitors. Our volunteers love sharing their enthusiasm through trails, crafts and demonstrations with families.

As a volunteer, you have the opportunity not only to join in with events at Knole, but also to engage the wider community of Sevenoaks who might not usually visit Knole.

Our family events mainly take place during the school holidays, particularly over Easter and in the summer.  They are run as individual one-day events so you can offer as much or as little of your time as you like.

A few of the activities we offer include:

  • Family trails at Easter and in the autumn
  • Tudor skittles
  • Weaving
  • Calligraphy
  • Medieval finger-braiding

'Helping with the various summer activities at Knole and the outreach visits is very rewarding.  The children respond well and enjoy themselves. Some families promise to return to Knole to see more,' said Margaret, Learning Volunteer.
