Powis Castle Plum and Walnut Cobbler

Autumn at Powis Castle


  • 800g fresh plums
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 10g ground cinnamon
  • 225g self raising flour
  • 50g walnut pieces
  • 50g butter
  • 1 Freedom food egg
  • 50ml double cream
  • 50ml milk


  1. Peel, chop and mix plums in 25g sugar and the cinnamon, mix.
  2. Arrange in the bottom of a large gratin dish.
  3. In a large bowl, sift the flour with a pinch of salt and rub in the butter. Add the chopped walnuts, 50g sugar, egg and a little milk to ensure a dropping consistency.
  4. Dollop the cobbler mix around the top of the fruit and bake straight away for 30 mins at 190°C.
  5. Serve with fresh cream.
