Belton House welcomes The Goldsmiths' Company and silversmith Angela Cork.
Studio Silver Today
Contemporary design has been under the spotlight this year as we host acclaimed silversmith Angela Cork and promote the work of The Goldsmiths' Company through the Studio Silver Today exhibition. This is the culmination of a five-year partnership between The Goldsmiths' Company and the National Trust, which has introduced thousands of visitors to contemporary silver and some of the craft’s most accomplished designer–makers.
Win a piece of Angela's work
During her residency, visitors have been able to meet Angela as she's worked most Saturdays in the House. She's been creating a silver beaker, the design of which was inspired by the carvings on Belton's main staircase. This unique piece of silver will be won by one very lucky visitor when we hold a free prize draw on Friday 31 October.
To be in with a chance of winning the beaker, worth an estimated £2000, just fill in one of the entry slips when you visit the house. Entries will be accepted until 4.30pm on Thursday 30 October.
Our gift shop will also be selling examples of Angela's work during her residency.
The Goldsmiths' Company
One of the Twelve Great Livery Companies of the City of London, The Goldsmiths’ Company received its first Royal Charter in 1327. The Company’s London Assay Office has been responsible since 1300 for testing the quality of gold, silver and, from 1975, platinum articles.
The Goldsmiths’ Company’s private collection of silver and jewellery is one of the largest in the UK, comprising 8,000 items dating from 1300 to the present day. Its contemporary collections are world-renowned.
The Company continues to play an important role in support of the craft, funding apprenticeships and assisting with the technical training of aspiring designer-makers.
