Do you have some free time? Do you fancy trying something different? Do you love local history? Then volunteering at the Birmingham Back to Backs could be the thing for you! From tour guiding to conservation, we have a volunteer role to suit everyone.
Here at the Back to Backs, we have three Victorian prams which are looking a bit worse for wear and are in need of some love and attention to breathe some life back into them. We are looking for someone who is able to restore these items to their original glory. If you are able to restore them and are interested in volunteering some of your time to help us with this, please contact Rheanna Smith on 0121 622 2442. We are also looking for donations to cover the costs of the restoration, so if you love Victorian prams or giving life back to items from the past and would like to help us with the costs, please contact Rheanna Smith on the number above.
The Birmingham Back to Backs is the only true example of courtyard housing and life left in the Midlands, after surviving the threat of demolition twice in its lifetime. Now safe from any more threats, the Back to Backs is home to a very unique collection of items, the majority of which have come from public donations. We are always pleased to see donations as it helps give the property atmosphere and authenticity. If you have small items from the 1840s-1870s, 1930s or wartime Britain that you are happy to donate, please contact Rheanna Smith on 0121 622 2442. Please note: if you have large items from these eras, unfortunately we cannot accept them as we have no room to display or store them.
Do you have stories to share?
We always love to hear stories of the Back to Backs and Birmingham's life gone by. Soon, we will have a format on the website for you to share your tales with us; for now, just keep on telling us when you visit.
