The Back to Backs in the Community
Set in the heart of Birmingham, the Back to Backs like to get involved with our surrounding community.
We do this with educational projects, exhibitions and by hosting and participating in events by local groups
The local area is diverse. Within a mile radius from the property, there are a number of communities which include Chinese, Irish, Muslim and African Caribbean along with the lively local Birmingham Markets, Gay and Chinese quarter.
We are keen to increase local engagement through our visitor experience and education programmes.
Birmingham is full of history and stories that are itching to be told to others.
We offer a chance for you to tell your own stories and share your knowledge relating to Birmingham and the Back to Backs.
If you wish to give a Café talk or wish to listen to one, please contact Mukith Miah on 0121 622 2442.
Whose Story? Project
Between 2007 and 2011, the Birmingham Back to Backs was part of the Whose Story? project which helped develop relationships with Black Minority Ethnic Communities. There were various projects within this project at the Backs to Backs, Wightwick and Croome Park.
Each summer, we have the summer challenge here at the Back to Backs.
We take a small group of young people and train them to be Back to Back tour guides. With this, they learn useful life skills.
Secret City Arts
Secret City Arts is a project which creates art pieces with the help of local artists, taking inspiration from the city and then showcasing in places where people who normally wouldn’t see exhibitions, would see.
We were lucky to showcase a piece about the Bullring Markets which are on our doorstep
