Notice: Week beginning Mon 2 March 2015: Our story of Bodiam exhibition room will be closed this week whilst we make some changes. This also means that our 'A Knight's Peril' interactive audio adventure is not available. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during these necessary works to improve this area and provide a better experience for our visitors. Week beginning Mon 9 March 2015: Road closure. Bodiam Road will be closed to through traffic from the junction of Junction Road to the junction of Peters Green Road for 5 days. Visitors to the castle will need to use roads to Bodiam from Sandhurst or Staplecross. Please allow extra time for your journey.

Archetypal 14th century moated castle with ruined interior - a glimpse of medieval splendour

Set in the heart of an historic landscape, with spiral staircases, battlements and a portcullis, 14th century Bodiam Castle is one of Britain's most picturesque and romantic ancient monuments. Windows where arrows were once fired, a tower that was once a look-out and ruins that were once walked upon by knights; this is a place where you can relive your childhood memories and let your imagination run riot.

In the impressive gatehouse is the castle's original wooden portcullis, an extremely rare example of its kind. Enough of the interior ruins survive to give an impression of castle life and gruesome and surprising tales can often be heard from our miller's wife, forester and other colourful characters from the past. Plus we have lots of seasonal events throughout the year.
