The East Devon rangers
Based in the Branscombe office, behind the Old Forge, the East Devon rangers are responsible for conservation and working with the local community.
Peter Blyth is the newly appointed head ranger of East Devon. He is responsible for overseeing the rangers and volunteers and developing the sites in East Devon.
Sue Myers is a practical ranger and has worked for the National Trust for over 14 years. Her role involves the traditional duties of countryside management.
Lucy Morton is the new community ranger. She builds community links, bringing the countryside to the public. Her work will include hosting family/community events, talks and walks. She will be thinking of new ways to bring people into the area and for them to gain a better understanding of the National Trust in the countryside.
Working with local schools

Teaching children about their surroundings is a large part of a ranger’s job. A school allotment was created to allow pupils to grow their prize wining beet fruit. We also helped with tree planting on school grounds.
Supporting the community

Two years ago the East Devon team helped construct a new footpath leading from the local school to the village hall where the children played sports. This meant they no longer had to walk along the busy village road.
Nature rambles and charity walks

Our children’s charity walks have included a ‘welly walk’ to raise money for 'Farm Africa' and ‘Give Poverty the Boot’ as well as a ‘Great Nut Hunt’ (looking for dormice) run by the People’s Trust for Endangered Species.
