Famous for our red squirrels, wildlife and Scouting
Things to see and do
‘I love coming to Brownsea Island because you can climb trees and there’s lots of wildlife too - there are red squirrels, sika deer, peacocks and lots of birds on the lagoon.’ - Leo Curtis, aged 13
Eating and shopping
Brownsea Island is home to a wide variety of wildlife and habitats, all within a relatively small area. Explore the mixed and pine woodland, home to the famous red squirrels, watch migrating birds on the lagoon or spot dragonflies and lizards in the heath.
Autumn is a beautiful season here on Brownsea Island, with squirrels busy hunting for nuts and seeds to hide for the winter, birds on the lagoon and fungi on the woodland floor there is plenty to look out for.
This is absolutely one of the best times of the year for seeing our lagoons wildlife. Due to the large numbers of rare migrating birds visiting our stunning lagoon. Try visiting all the island hides and see which rare birds you can spot for yourself.
