Wildlife on Long Mynd

The Long Mynd, with its varied wildlife, is a wonderful place to visit at any time of year. The seasonal changes can't be precisely defined on the calendar, however we can break up the wildlife you are likely to see into four seasons, giving you an idea of things to look out for when you visit.

Pond Dipping

Pond dipping is a great way to keep the children entertained

There are lots of water minibeasts and fish in our ponds and stream in Carding Mill Valley. Download the identification chart and see if you can identify everything you catch.

Bird watching

From here you can watch the garden birds on the bird feeders

Head to the roof terrace or to the bird hide and watch the birds on the bird feeders. You can even borrow a pair of binoculars that are available from the tea-room so you can get a closer look.

Rangers' blog

Our Rangers are always keeping a look out for wildlife

Keep an eye on the Rangers' blog for latest sightings of birds, bugs and even otters. The blog is regularly updated by our Full Time Volunteers so all sightings are recent.
