Learning at Dunster Castle

We’ve got over 1000 years of history at Dunster Castle which means we’ve got lots to share with you on a school visit.

We offer a variety of learning programmes which bring the castle and its stories to life in ways that entertain and inspire you and your pupils.

In addition to the session cost, admission charges apply to all visitors without Education Group Membership.

  • House and gardens: child £4.60, adult £9.30
  • Gardens only: child £2.80, adult £5.60

Education visits to Dunster Castle are welcome all year round, although some elements of the learning programme are limited during the winter months.

Our preferred days for education visits are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Primary schools (EYFS, KS1, KS2)

We offer learning sessions for pupils from reception to Key Stage 2. From trying on chainmail to helping Cook in the kitchen, we have a variety of programmes to inspire and entertain your group.

Secondary schools (KS2, KS3)

We have a range of sessions suitable for secondary school groups. We will also work with you to develop tailor-made tours which can include travel and tourism, event management, marketing and conservation.

English language schools

If you would like to bring an English language school to Dunster Castle please contact the Learning Officer in advance.

Families

Dunster Castle offers a wide range of family-friendly events and activities throughout the year where you can learn together. This includes Have-a-go Archery, Wild Wednesdays, Civil War weekends and Victorian Games.
