To reduce our usage of fossil fuels by 50 per cent by 2020, we have just eight years to consider renewable energy measures at the properties in our care – and implement them wherever they can make a difference.

As you can imagine with 300 properties in our care, the investment in renewable energy alternatives is significant. But we believe it is absolutely necessary and worthwhile.

There’s no doubt that meeting our renewable energy target is a massive challenge for the National Trust – and the time to act is now. We simply can’t do it without you so please make a donation to our 'For ever, for everyone' 2011 appeal today.

Renewable energy will sustain the places we love for ever, for everyone.

  • Thanks to renewable energy, many of our sites are already partly, or fully, sustainable – helping to keep them open for everyone to enjoy, for ever.
  • Our renewable energy commitment will be achieved by continuing to use a mix of solar, hydro and wind and replacing oil-fired heating with woodfuel bio-mass boilers and heat pumps, even in sensitive locations.
  • Each property is assessed to find the best energy solution, tailored to them, and to make the most of their own natural resources.
  • By making our sites more sustainable, renewable energy is vital to the future of the properties in our care.
