In the 18th century, Gibside was a place for parties. George Bowes would entertain his guests with fabulous meals at the Hall, desserts at the Banqueting House and musical performances in the pleasure grounds.

Today we're rekindling this spirit and are opening the doors to local musicians and performers.

Buskers' evening at Sun Down beer garden
Listen to local buskers and bands, or bring your own instrument and join in. Our free Friday evening opening offers the biggest family beer garden in Gateshead.

First Friday evening of the month, 6 to 9pm, free entry

Music in the Park
Perfect picnicking and live music on the Avenue every fortnight all summer, 1 to 4pm, including:

  • 22 September - Music in the Park 2013 Finale - Vieux Carre Jazzmen
    Enjoy popular jazz classics from the 1920s onwards from this traditional six piece jazz band.

Music in the Chapel
Enjoy the fantastic acoustics of Gibside Chapel with live music from local choirs inspired by a seasonal theme, on the third Sunday every month, 2 to 3pm, including:

    Friendly community choir from Whickham.

Halloween Hog Roast
Warm up by our log-fired braziers for all the usual Gibside Beer Garden treats plus local hog roast, live music, scary face painting and Halloween fancy dress. Free entry!

Christmas Carols by Candlelight
Enjoy the candlelit festive atmosphere and acoustics of our Georgian Chapel for carols with the Mid-Northumbrian Chorus. With mulled wine and mince pies.

Christmas Orchestral Concert
