With more than 15 miles of footpaths to choose from at Gibside, we think we've got a satisfying walk for everyone, whether you prefer a gentle garden stroll or a more challenging wilderness hike. Why not come, explore and surprise yourself with an escape to the country on the edge of the city!
Ever seen a red kite soar? Ever spotted a newt? Gibside's a great place for wildlife because we have such a variety of habitats and when our parkland was neglected in the 20th century, nature thrived in the wilderness.

However, if you're brand new to this, we'll be running a few Geocaching events through the summer where you can have a go and hire a GPS unit from us, follow a trail and find the caches. Check the dates in our events listing.
