St Michael's Tower

St Michael's Tower

St Michael's Tower is all that's left of a church that was built on the Tor.

The tower lies on the St Michael line, which goes in a straight line from St Michael's Mount, through Burrow Mump and the Tor, to Avebury.

Not far from Glastonbury are the Polden Hills. Explore this beautiful landscape of woodland and hill tops with stunning views across the Somerset Levels, the Blackdown and Quantock Hills, and over to Exmoor.

You may even be lucky enough to see the Large Blue, one of our rarest butterflies.

West Pennard Court Barn lies on the outskirts of Glastonbury, and is a wonderful example of a tithe barn.

You're welcome to have a look around the barn.

The views from here stretch to Glastonbury Tor and Wellington Monument.

In winter, when the surrounding moors are mostly flooded, it resembles an island much as it was before the Levels were drained.

A romantic ruined church, dating from 1793, stands on the site. It was never finished or consecrated. It's a memorial to the people of Somerset who died serving their country.
