50 things in a year in West Dorset

We're calling all young adventurers and those young at heart. Each week in 2014 we'll be promoting a different activity from the 50 things to do before you’re 11¾ challenge.
With its unspoilt landscape, West Dorset is the perfect place to work through your 50 things list. Our team hopes that by highlighting one activity each week, and showing the best places to do it, families can have unforgettable experiences in the fresh air, while exploring some of the special places we care for, including the Golden Cap Estate, Ringstead Bay and Hive Beach at Burton Bradstock.
50 things events
Some weeks there will be organised events for a particular activity, on others the team will simply give helpful hints about when or where to try it for yourself. Many of the activities are straightforward and you can tick off several in a day. More challenging ones will require more planning. Organised events will include wild art at the Lyme Regis shop in February half-term, an Easter trail with 50 things activities, and fossil hunting at the Lyme Regis Fossil Festival on the first May Bank Holiday.
Great for families
Sarah Kennedy, our Outdoor Experience Ranger said: ‘We’re hoping this will encourage families to get out and explore our spectacular open spaces together, and have a great time doing so. There’s so much to do here in the fresh air and we want to give children the chance to have all these must-do experiences in the freedom of the countryside. It’s something the whole family can enjoy, as parents can remember the fun they had doing the same things when they were young.’
