Families, friends, groups, schools and even dogs are welcome

Housesteads Visitor Centre has plenty on offer to help make your day special. We love inviting families, friends, groups and even your four-legged friends and there are seating areas where you can enjoy a cuppa and a snack.

For the shop-aholics there's cards and books, to teatowels, garden kit and plants. There's even egg cups, mugs and of course - Roman memorabilia.

Have an adventure

Join in our '50 Things' campaign and head outdoors - you can pick up your scrapbook from here and we have lots of bits and bobs on offer to help you complete your list, such as kites, nature books and much more.

Re-fuel

If there’s one place to make a stop-off it’s the ice-cream cart

There are savoury snacks, sandwiches - all by local suppliers - and hot and cold drinks available as well as crisps and chocolate. We now have ice cream too - for the adults just as much as the children!

Relax

Visit Housesteads for a blast to the past then rest at the Visitor Centre

No matter what the weather there is a place for you to relax, inside or out tables and benches are provided where you can enjoy refreshments, summarise your day and watch the world go by.

Think Roman

Join us at Hadrian’s Wall and find out what Roman life was like

We're not all talk here at Hadrian's Wall - you really can be a soldier for the day! Pick-up your shield, sword and armour then head to Housesteads Fort for an epic journey.

Decorate your home and garden with wonderful glass ornaments

Did you know that every metre of Hadrian's Wall costs £100 to conserve and maintain?

Every penny you spend in the shop and café goes straight back into helping us protect and look after Housesteads and Hadrian's Wall Country Group - Allen Banks and Staward Gorge and Bellister Estate.

Without your support we simply wouldn't be able to protect these historical places. Thank you.

Gifts galore

Hopefully the gardening weather will soon be making a return and we've got the perfect excuse to get the ball rolling. If you enjoy gardening like we do then why not take a look at the range of wonderful plants for sale? They are all grown locally and peat-based.

The stall is located to the rear of the Visitor Centre and a member of staff will always be happy to help.
