Children will love the freedom of Hatfield Forest

Get the children out of the house

Children love nothing more than running around and letting off steam. Here at Hatfield Forest we have plenty of open space for playing and exploring. Why not run across the plains and feel like you're flying in the wind, climb a tree or build a den?

Build a secret den in the woods

Create a secret hideout and disappear amongst the trees

Create a secret hideout and disappear amongst the trees

First of all, find a little space. Then using fallen sticks and branches found lying on the ground, build a frame. To cover it and camouflage it, add leaves and twigs over the frame. Then get in and hide.

Find hidden treasure

Find hidden treasure using a GPS tracker - a GPS 'smart phone' or a special GPS device.

Go to www.geocaching.com or www.opencaching.com to look for hidden caches around the Forest.

Borrow a tracker pack and explore

Borrow a tracker pack from the shop at the Forest and head off exploring. Inside you'll find activitiy sheets to do, that will show you some of the wonderful trees in the forest and lake area.

Enjoy the woodland paths

You can follow some of our walking guides trough the forest. If you're feeling adventurous you can make up your own route around but don't forget to take a map and compass to avoid getting lost.

Explore the forest by bike

Bring your own bicycles or hire them from us and get out and discover the far corners of the forest. Most of the forest is a safe, car-free area. Why not bring a picnic?
