Memories of a bygone age of tourism in this fascinating ruin

Help us bring Claife Viewing Station back to life This special place played a part in the early days of visitors coming to the Lake District in the late eighteenth century, and was the inspiration of poets and artists. Two centuries later, the Viewing Station is in a state of disrepair. Last year we asked visitors what they'd like the National Trust to do at Claife - and their response was to be able to enjoy those views seen by previous generations once again. We can't restore Claife it to its full glory, but we can make it safe, construct a viewing platform and give the Station Cottage a new lease of life. To turn these plans into reality we need your help.

How can your money help us?

  • £20 would buy us a pane of antique glass for the Station cottage
  • £50 could buy a step for the viewing platform
  • £150 could help pay to make one square metre of exterior wall secure.

Please take part and help support this special place - make a donation for the restoration today.
