Classic south Lakeland countryside with views of the fells and lakes
Hawkshead village, home to the Beatrix Potter Gallery, is surrounded by beautiful scenery, including Windermere lakeshore.
North of the village is the Courthouse, dating from the 15th century, all that remains of the estate once held by Furness Abbey. Wray Castle offers year round access to the grounds.

Wray Castle is now closed for the season
Sorry but Wray Castle is closed to visitors now but you are very welcome to enjoy the grounds which are open all year.
Planning permission was granted for conversion of the Castle to a hotel and as the timescale for work to begin is unclear then we are unable to give an idea yet if we will be open to the public again in 2012. Keep an eye on this website page for latest information.
