Sheep dog trials and demo
The East Anglian Sheep Dog Society will be running sheep dog trials all day. Watch these talented dogs and handlers herd their sheep through a complicated set of hurdles before getting them into the final gate and pen. Throughout the day a wide range of dogs and handlers will be taking part in the trials, and you can also see a demonstration of their skills during the day to help you make sense of this age old skill and tradition.
The Sheep Show
This unique show has captured the hearts of many. The New Zealand style team of presenters educate and entertain, with their fantastic sheep. Nobby the Norfolk Horn stands centre stage while others are introduced to their podiums. You'll learn about each breeds attributes and how wool from the sheep's back becomes a jumper to wear. The shearing demonstration is well commentated and has the audience captivated. The highlight of the show is the “The sheep show Hustle of dancing sheep.
Alpacas are members of the South American Camelid family and are bred for their amazing luxurious fleece. There are two kinds of alpaca; the huacaya which has sheep-like woolliness and the suri that has long spiral locks. Woodbine farm, who started farming Alpacas in 2007, are joining us for the day with a few Alpacas from their herd. Come along and meet them and discover these beautiful creatures and the wonderful wool that they produce.
Green Dragon Morris
Green Dragon Morris are a family oriented Border Morris side based in Bury St Edmunds. Their aim is to have fun with flamboyance and finesse! So we're sure you'll be thoroughly entertained by them as they dance up a storm in our central arena during the day. Sit back, smile, enjoy an ice cream or two and watch the show.
Runner Duck Shepherding
Professional shepherd Ed Hawkins has a lighter side and when he's not managing a flock of sheep he manages his flock of runner ducks. Ed will delight us with a display of runner duck shepherding with his trusted four legged working dogs. Fun, frivolous but incredibly talented sit back and let him and his ducks bring a smile and laugh to your face.
Wool crafts and stalls
Open your eyes to the world of wool. Our Orford Ness shepherd will be selling a variety of fleeces, and we've got spinners and dyers, felt makers and wool sellers. Also a number of craft stalls selling different woollen crafts or sheepskin items. Great browsing to buy and to learn about this ancient craft.
Beautiful crafts & kids' fun
We also welcome a variety of craft stalls specialising in handmade beautiful products, always from environmentally sourced areas. How about helping to make your own pottery plate, or enjoy trying on some jewellery, find the perfect wind chime and admire the talented skills of our craft stall holders, all of whom have made the items they are selling. For your kids we'll have fun sheepy and woolly crafts for free and amazing stories in the yurt with Storybeard.
Entertainment for all
We've fun family entertainment for everyone. As well as a great variety of food and drink stalls to cater to everyone's taste and let's not forget the beer stalls for something to wash it down with. You can look forward to a great family day out with us this weekend celebrating the wonderful world of wool.
