Tread in the steps of historical figures and some of today’s biggest names. A visit to Kedleston brings you a little bit closer to the aristocratic world which has recently been seen in the popular television series Downton Abbey.

An inspiration for Downton's Lady Grantham

Mary Leiter, later known as Baroness Curzon of Kedleston after marrying Sir Nathaniel Curzon, was the inspiration behind Downton's character Lady Grantham.
Mary Leiter used to live at Kedleston Hall as Lord Curzon’s (Viceroy of India) wife. The Curzon family have lived at Kedleston Hall since the 12th century and continue to live here today.

Filming The Duchess

In autumn 2007, Kedleston Hall experienced a taste of Hollywood magic when film crew selected the property to film a range of stunning scenes for period blockbuster The Duchess starring Keira Knightley.
Kedleston was perfect to depict three key locations; the Spencer family home in Althorp, Devonshire House in London and a rented villa in Bath.
