Mary Ashby Lewis lived at Llanerchaeron for over three quarters of a century. Following her husband's death she found herself running the estate on her own for 52 years. She was held in high esteem by the people who lived in and around the Llanerchaeron estate.

Captain T P Lewes was the first to introduce electricity and modern plumbing to the house at Llanerchaeron. But with the arrival of modern technologies he continued to manage the estate in the traditional way.

John Powell Ponsonby Lewes was the 10th and last generation of his family to live at Llanerchaeron. Following in his father's footsteps as a keen huntsman he kept the family traditions alive until bequeathing the estate to the National Trust.

When commissioned to design a new house at Llanerchaeron in 1783, John Nash was a little know architect from London. He later became a great Regency architect, designing the Brighton Pavilion and Buckingham Palace.
