National Trust Green Energy

The National Trust has launched a major new partnership with energy provider npower, aimed at helping us to reduce our environmental footprint.

We are already experiencing the impacts of climate change at our properties and are taking action to use less heat and electricity and to install small scale renewable energy at these sites. This is a big programme of work and npower’s energy expertise and technologies will really help us to make progress.

We also want to help National Trust staff, volunteers and other supporters save energy. That is why we have teamed up with npower to develop National Trust Green Energy, bringing accessible, practical and positive solutions to peoples’ homes.

National Trust Green Energy is 100 per cent renewable electricity from existing cleaner, greener sources such as offshore wind and hydro-electric power.

The money raised from sales of National Trust Green Energy goes directly back to helping the Trust invest in renewable technologies and other carbon saving measures at our properties.

Best of all you can visit our properties to see these new technologies in action.

Kevin Miles, Managing Director of npower residential, said:

'Together, the National Trust and npower can pioneer new solutions to help the UK become a low carbon society. The National Trust is Europe’s largest conservation organisation and npower leads on green energy in the UK – having launched Britain’s first offshore wind farm in November 2003.

This is the start of an exciting partnership that will actively seek new ways to provide people’s homes and communities with energy services that encourage the minimum use of carbon'
