The country house was the centre of a self-sufficient and self-financing agricultural estate, and at several National Trust properties the close relationship of house and estate is demonstrated.

Workshops are shown with surviving tools at Erddig in Wales and Cotehele in Cornwall.
Wimpole Hall in Cambridgeshire has its own working Home Farm. Collections of agricultural implements are shown at Shugborough in Staffordshire and Castle Ward in Northern Ireland, while a major collection has been added at Llanerchaeron in Wales.
At Trerice in Cornwall there is a collection of historic lawnmowers and at Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire there is a museum of historic garden implements.
