The National Trust is fortunate to own fine collections of early silver as due to its intrinsic value silver is often the first category of a collection to be sold.
A selection of properties to visit with examples of silver:
Important collections of 17th-century silver exist at Knole in Kent. Dunham Massey in Cheshire has outstanding early 18th-century Huguenot silver, while Ickworth in Suffolk and Belton House in Lincolnshire have highly important collections, including examples by the principal neo-classical silversmiths.
There is an extensive collection of the finest quality at Erddig in Wales, while several other houses have smaller groups of interesting pieces.
