Discover a rich diversity of wildlife throughout the year, from sika deer and wading birds to the rare red squirrel, on a gentle 1 mile walk through pine woodland.
Farne Islands in Northumberland – Spring and summer are a busy (not to mention noisy!) time on the Farne Islands, as 1,000s of nesting seabirds, including puffin, guillemot and tern, find sanctuary on these rocky islands off the Northumberland coast. The short half mile boardwalk trail around Inner Farne is great for children, with lots of wildlife to look out for.
Lundy Island off the North Devon coast – Set out on our 4 mile walk and explore this wild and timeless island, celebrating its 40th anniversary in National Trust care this year. As you follow the trail past the old quarry, the lighthouse and then out along the coast look out for sika deer, seals and, if you’re lucky, the celebrated puffin.
Rathlin Island in Northern Ireland – At 8 miles long and a mile wide, this wild and unspoilt island is rich in seabirds and other wildlife. This gentle 1 mile walk takes you to the northern edge of the island, with its ragged cliff faces and the iconic East Lighthouse. On a clear day you'll be treated to spectacular views of the western isles and the coast of Scotland. Head over to the famous RSPB Seabird Centre on the west of the island after your walk, which plays host to a myriad of bird life, including puffins, guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes.
St Helens Duver on the Isle of Wight – With lots to offer, from historical and lively villages to beautiful secluded beaches, the Isle of Wight is a wonderful destination for a family day out.
