Statuary and sculpture form an important part of the collection of the first Lord Fairhaven (1896 -1966) to Anglesey Abbey.
Statuary and sculpture
Most visitors are familiar with the large collection of garden statuary and ornament that frame the tree lined avenues and wait to surprise them as they round a corner.
Less well known are the fine bronze sculptures that form part of the collection within the house. This year, an exhibition on this theme sees some of the best items on display for the first time.
20th-century pieces
Focusing on two periods in particular, visitors can see important 20th-century pieces by well-known sculptors. Works by R Tait McKenzie and Sir Alfred Gilbert are on display in the Library.
Earlier sculpture
By contrast, in the Upper Gallery visitors can see a collection of earlier pieces, some dating back to the 16th century. Modelled on classical statues, these items also form an interesting link with the garden statuary.
Opening arrangements
Opening times for the exhibition are as for the house.
