Visiting the shop and tea-room or restaurant is an unmissable part of a visit to many National Trust properties.
Shops
Many Trust properties have shops. The shops offer a wide range of merchandise, much of which is exclusive to the Trust. Many of the items on sale have been carefully chosen to reflect the character of the Trust's magnificent houses and glorious gardens, or the National Trust's work.
The Trust also operates a number of shops in towns and cities throughout the country. They are open during normal trading hours.
Tea-rooms and restaurants
The National Trust operates more than 140 tea-rooms and restaurants. They are usually located in very special old buildings including castles, lighthouses, stables, and even hot-houses.
We aim to offer a welcoming atmosphere, value for money and traditional home cooking. Many properties feature menus with an historical theme.
Many of the products we use are sourced locally and are regional specialities. We use ethically traded tea and coffee. Many properties feature historical menus reflecting the heyday of the house.
Tea-rooms and restaurants are often open at times of year when houses and gardens are closed and many offer special programmes of events, such as lecture lunches, as well as festive meals in the run-up to Christmas.
