Admission fees and opening arrangements
Members of the National Trust are admitted free to virtually
all properties. Each property entry when you search for a place to visit shows the
normal adult admission fee. This includes VAT and is liable to change if the VAT rate is altered.
Children
Under 5s visit free. Children aged between five and sixteen pay half the adult price,
unless stated. Seventeen-year-olds and over pay the adult price. Children not accompanied by an adult
are admitted at the Trust's discretion.
Concessions
As a registered charity completely independent of government, the National Trust
cannot afford to offer concessions on admission fees.
Education groups
Many properties offer educational facilities and programmes. Teachers are invited
to make a free preliminary visit by prior arrangement with the property. Education Group Membership
is recommended. More details on Education Group Membership
Group visits
All groups are required to book in advance and confirm the booking in writing. Some
properties have limited access for groups so early booking is recommended. A discount is usually available
for groups of 15 or more at most properties. Full information on group visits to National Trust properties
is available in our 'Group organisers' section.
Events
National Trust events cater for every taste from hands on family activities, garden
and food fairs, where you're welcome to drop in, through to limited availability walks, tours and lunches
and outdoor concerts, where we advise booking in advance.
For further information visit our events pages or contact one
of our regional offices for an events leaflet. Please note that leaflet details are correct at the time
of publication but we advise you call to confirm before travelling. Visit

National Garden Scheme days
Each year many National Trust gardens are opened on extra days in support of the
National Gardens Scheme (NGS). National Trust members may have to pay for entry on NGS days. Money raised
on these days is donated by NGS to support nurses' and gardeners' charities, including National Trust
gardens - primarily for the provision of garden apprenticeships.
The National Trust acknowledges with gratitude the generous and continuing support
of the National Gardens Scheme Charitable Trust.
Busy properties
Many properties are extremely popular on Bank Holidays and summer weekends. At some
houses and gardens timed tickets may be issued to smooth the flow of people entering the property (but
not to limit the duration of a visit), and all visitors, including Trust members, are required to use
these tickets. This system is designed to create better viewing conditions for visitors and to minimise
wear-and-tear on the historic interiors or gardens.
On rare occasions entry to the property may not be possible on that day. If you
are planning a long journey, please telephone the property in advance of your trip. At a few properties
special considerations apply and pre-booking is essential, such as Chastleton and
Mr Straw's House.
Anything new?
