The Trust offers a variety of opportunities for fishing throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland in some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable...
These include lowland lakes and canals dominated by coarse fish, upland lakes and streams populated primarily by game species, and rivers with a mix of game and coarse fish.
We welcome fishing at our properties providing it is compatible with our core aims - to provide public access to the countryside, and to conserve wildlife and places of historic interest.
We appreciate that fishing can encourage good environmental management of watercourses and their surrounding habitats, with fishermen often a powerful advocate of pollution control and effective water catchment management. This can benefit a great many species, not just fish.

In some cases we manage water directly ourselves; in others they are managed by local clubs or lessees.
The type and extent of publicly available fishing can depend on management constraints, such as the carrying capacity of the water and surrounding environment, and on historic lease agreements.
In some places daily or weekly permits are available; at others it is necessary to apply to become a member of a club. Please always check for details with the property.
Notes:
- For bank fishing, the bank (ie left or right) is given when looking down stream.
- Please contact the Trust property concerned and/or the appropriate organisation before you go, as permission, insurance or membership may be required.
- An Environment Agency licence (available from post offices) must be held.
- Usual closed seasons observed unless otherwise indicated.
