Water and the waters’ edge can be dangerous and often the hazard is not obvious. Weil’s
disease is carried by rats and can be transmitted through cuts. Some blue-green algal blooms are toxic
and may be ingested from the hands. It is therefore important to wash before eating,
particularly if there has been any contact with water. Children
should be supervised at all times. British Standards Institute-approved
lifejackets should be worn when boating. Swimming
is usually prohibited at National Trust properties. Anglers should also
be aware of any overhead cables, keeping at least 30 metres (nearly 33 yards) away
from them, as most rods and damp nylon lines are good conductors of electricity, and there is also a
danger of arcing. Please take note of, and heed, any signs or
information on display.
