The Trust's general policy is to allow field sports to take place on its property where traditionally practised, providing they are within the law and are compatible with the Trust’s purposes, which include public access and nature conservation.
The Trust is a charitable body, and as such does not take a political position either for or against field sports.
The 2004 Hunting Act made the hunting of animals with dogs illegal except in very specific situations. Trail hunting, which involves the following of an artificially laid scent and no hunting of animals, is a legal activity. The Trust's general policy is to allow this providing it does not conflict in specific circumstances with our nature conservation or other purposes.
