We welcome horse riders at our properties provided that they act according to our wider purposes, particularly the conservation of nature and wildlife and the provision of public access.
Horse riding is a traditional pastime enjoyed by a large number of people at many National Trust properties. Provision of recreational access to our properties is an important way in which the National Trust delivers its objective of providing 'benefit to the nation'.
What sort of horse riding? Horse riders are welcome to use our network of National Trust permitted bridle paths as well as public bridleways for informal riding. The type and length of routes available are stated in the list. At a number of properties horse rentals via local clubs are provided. Carriage driving is also available at some properties.
