Competition Winners
We received an enormous number of exciting and inspiring entrants in our ‘Original Green’ competition which aimed to celebrate grandparents and their wealth of knowledge and experience in green living.
We are happy to announce that Olga Ellis has been named the nation’s greenest grandparent.
Nominated by her daughter Mrs Jenni Pemberton, Olga has proved to be a green inspiration to a whole generation of her family. Described as the 'original eco warrior', she lived the life of Barbara Good long before 'the Good Life' ever existed. Her activities range from composting, to wild mushroom picking, and beer, cider and wine making.
Also winning prizes were:
- Daphne Smith from Stourbridge, nominated by her granddaughter Sian Yarwood-Smith.
Sian says her Gran is a ‘role model to us all’ and a source of many creative and resourceful ‘green tips’. She uses 'everything' at least twice, provides home-made jams, pies and crumbles for all her family and neighbours, and makes birthdays extra special with home made cards
- Grandparents of Robert & Andrew Kean from Cheshire
Robert and Andrew drew a brilliant diagram of their grandparent’s sustainable and organic garden and vegetable patch.
