Thank you all so much for your entries to our green song writing
competition. We really enjoyed listening to the songs you made for us, and were absolutely bowled over
by the high standard of the entries!
We are now delighted
to announce our winners and runners up…
Winner in the Primary School Category
‘The Fabulous Fours’ AKA Mrs Bayliss’s class at St Peter’s Primary
School, Wrexham
This
song, scored top marks in all of our categories – lyrics, message, innovation and sound. Every element
of making your lifestyle greener is included in the song, and it has a real global overview of the climate
change issue. We would like to hail Year Four at St Peter’s as Green Experts – everyone can learn something
from this song!
Winner in the Over 11s Category
Olivia Morley from Valley Gardens Middle School in Whitley Bay
We
really enjoyed listening to Olivia’s song, it is very moving and beautiful, and the lyrics have a strong
environmental message. We were particularly impressed that Olivia wrote and performed both the song
and the music herself!
Runners Up in the Primary School category
Mrs Butler’s class from St Ciaran’s Primary School, Cushendun, Northern
Ireland This class made instruments from recycled objects for their performance,
and their song – ‘Song for our Environment’ has great lyrics about what the class has done this year
to protect their local area.
Adamsdown Primary School Choir from Cardiff, led by Miss Griffiths This
song ‘The planet’s green, let’s keep it clean’ is full of great tips for being green in your everyday
life, and we love the rap at the end!
‘The Green Machines’ AKA Mrs Tompson’s class at St Michael’s Primary,
East Ham The lyrics of this song are fantastic, with lots of fun ideas for reducing
waste in your home, and had us singing it in the office all day. Listen through to the end for a special
Christmas twist!
Runners up in the Over 11s category
Year 7 & 8 girls from Melton Youth Club
We
liked this song because the lyrics are very environmental and political, and there is a clever mix of
singing and rap to get lots of messages into the song. Also the girls obviously worked very well together
to write and perform this song, and made their musical instruments out of recycled materials!
