By changing what we buy we can all make a difference.
Lunch Detectives
Wimpole Home Farm staff have developed a story, Lunch Detectives, with children from Petersfield School. The story consists of a series of fictional letters sent to school in children’s lunchboxes. The letters, which are written by the children’ carers, discuss the green, health and ethical issues involved in food choices.
Small Steps Big Change is finding out if Lunch Detectives has encouraged the class to:
- ‘Green’ their lunch box
- Encourage their parents to reuse carrier bags
- Buy Fair Trade
Buy fresh, local and seasonal
National Trust Properties across the country are running a variety of local food festivals, fayres, tastings and ‘from plot to plate’ days.
Small Steps, Big Change has directly supported events at Ashridge Estate, Buscot and Coleshill, Hanbury Hall, Ham House and ClumberPark.
Take a visit to a local food festival or farmers market near you and experience a whole new way of buying your weekly food.
How far has your food travelled?
Calke Abbey has developed a map of local producers who supply the restaurant. Small Steps, Big Change supported the project to:
- Raise awareness of where food comes from
- Stimulate an interest in local food
