Food Glorious Food This year we want to help children to grow their very own vegetables at home. We have launched a new website which shows you exactly what to do step by step. There’s even a virtual veggie patch where you can practice growing your own online!
As part of this campaign the National Trust will give away over 170 million free seeds, which is equal to up to four million pumpkins, 26 million bags of rocket leaves and 70 million lettuces!
A programme of special events around food will be running throughout the year at our properties, the aim is to inspire children and families into growing their own food.
1,000 new allotments created 1,000 new allotment plots will be created on Trust land by 2012 to give local communities the space to grow their own fruit and vegetables.
The initiative comes as demand for growing spaces is at an all time high - with more than 100,000 people currently on allotment waiting lists – as people look to spend more time with friends or family, exercising in the outdoor ‘gym’ and enjoying the fresh food they can produce.

Thousands of gardens, allotments and areas of land owned by individuals and organisations is being made available for cultivation all across the UK.
