Beyond price?
National Trust land is lived in, worked on or open to the public, and there are costs to looking after it - financial and environmental. With over 100 years of working in land management and the rural economy, we have the practical experience to balance the two.
The countryside is a workplace, much of it shaped and managed through farming. To sustain farming as a viable livelihood, we work with our farmers and tenants to incorporate environmentally-responsible practices, obtain good markets for produce, and build up new enterprises.
Visitor access is balanced with habitat and environmental needs, with the broad aim of not totally excluding one for the sake of the other. Sustaining a way of life, a nice place to visit or a beautiful view relies on working in partnership with all interested parties and with natural, environmental changes.
