The BBC has launched a programme to encourage people to get involved with nature, through visiting, helping out on projects or even creating their own breathing place.
The summer term 2009 activity for BBC Breathing Places Schools will be about creating homes for wildlife. Ideas such as building a wildlife wall and a bat box for visiting wildlife can be found on the Breathing Places Schools website. We also have plenty of ideas for wildlife homes to build in your school grounds.

Do One Thing
For those who want to take a more active role in the Breathing Places project, the website features many ideas for getting out and making a difference. With ideas ranging from seed collecting to making houses for hedgehogs, making a meadow or training your cat to be wildlife friendly, there really is something for everyone to do - regardless of how much time you have to spare.
If you don't want to follow any of the suggestions, you can read about what other people have been doing for inspiration, or get involved as a volunteer with an existing project. The only limit is your imagination!

Get your class involved
Schools can also get on board by registering with the project. Each term the website will suggest a simple Do One Thing project for the children (and teacher) to complete. There are also worksheets available to encourage children to explore the natural world around them.
