life, leading to Henry VIII and the dissolution of the monasteries. This session can be extended to
cover 'handling objects', health, hygiene or the medieval use of herbs.
We also offer special 'Theatre in Education' events, such as:
'Monastery and Monarch' Why did Henry VIII close
down the monasteries? Investigate the reasons, inspired by the primary evidence of Fountains Abbey and
lively interaction with North Country Theatre. Pupils gain an active understanding and appreciation
of life in Medieval monasteries through interaction and role-play.

Tattershall Castle Address:
Tattershall, Lincolnshire LN4 4LR Tel: 01476 577290 or 01526 342543
Fortified and moated, Tattershall Castle is a red-brick tower built in Medieval
times.
We run a toy workshop, dance workshop and costume-based activities.
These three activities combine well together to provide an interesting, informative
and fun package for Key Stage 1 and 2 children.
Following a short introductory discussion about the castle, transport and the Medieval
toys, children are invited to put on a costume and try out the toys.
Children then learn about the etiquette of period and how to perform some Medieval
dances, such as the Broulle and Farandole (both of which incorporate simple steps to make interesting
shapes e.g. snail, figure of eight) led by the Castle's original owners, Lord and Lady Cromwell.
Brass rubbing Key Stage 1 and 2 children are
taught the techniques of brass rubbing using brasses depicting Medieval figures. They begin simply with
wax crayons before progressing to the real metallic brass rubbing materials.
The Castle has also been used by local Secondary Schools to study History, Drama
and Geography.
